Timber Home ‘A Complete Loss’ in Fire Yesterday

Timber – Late last night, fire crews from Banks Fire Department, Forest Grove Fire and Rescue, and Washington County Fire District #2 in North Plains battled a residential fire that engulfed a three story home in Timber on NW Ridge Road near NW Strassel Road. According to the Banks Fire District, the home is a complete loss, but the homeowner and her cat escaped unharmed.

According to Banks Fire Chief Rodney Linz, crews struggled with a lack of water and poor road conditions as they fought the very remote fire.

Crews could be heard on the Washington County Fire and EMS radio scanner struggling to find water supplies to fight the fire, eventually finding a beaver pond to draw water from about a half mile from NW Strassel Road.

“Access to the site was poor, as the road was in poor condition.” Chief Linz said. He encourages rural residents to ensure a good water supply, such as a pond, is on their property to assist in case of a fire, as crews have to drive back to town to fill up a water tender when it runs out.

The cause of the fire is under joint investigation by the Banks Fire District and Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Contact the Washington County Sheriff’s office at the non-emergency dispatch number 503-629-0111 if you have any information on the fire.
