Tillamook Forest Center ‘Winter Cleaning Party’ volunteers needed

Tillamook State Forest – A cleaning party to ready the Tillamook Forest Center for the 2019 season will be held on Saturday, February 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the center is seeking volunteers to help out.

Every year, the center closes during the winter months, and is reopened with the help of volunteers who clean exhibits, tag gift shop items in this Oregon Department of Forestry owned-center, and do other tasks to get it ready for the thousands of yearly visitors who flock to forest center in the spring, summer, and fall.

With its access to hiking trails including the Wilson River Trail, replica fire tower, historic forestry and nature-related exhibits and programming, and more, the Tillamook Forest Center has become one of the most popular features for visitors heading to the Oregon Coast along the Wilson River Highway, recently designated as the ‘‘Tillamook Trees to Seas Scenic Byway’ in 2018.

No prior experience is required to help out, and participants should wear comfortable clothing, be able to work in groups, follow directions, bend and lift up to 10 pounds, and be at least 12 years old.

Registration to the event is required, and can be done by calling 503-815-6803. According to the Tillamook Forest Center’s website, space is limited.

Refreshments will be provided, but lunch is not provided.
