Timber – On April 30th and May 1st of 2016, up to 200 long distance runners will take to the trails and logging roads of the Tillamook State Forest, testing their speed against other competitors and the rugged terrain of the Tillamook Forest. The ultramarathon trail race will consist of two races; a 50 mile race and a 50 kilometer race. Both start at Reehers Camp, and then pass by various landmarks and features of the former Tillamook Burn, including Larch Mountain, University Falls, Gales Creek Trail, and the Storey Burn Trail.
“I’m trying to emphasize the historic nature of the Tillamook Burn forest fires and how they effect the region over the decades.” says Jeremy Long, the race director. “I’ve been running the trails in the Tillamook Forest for years and wanted to be able to share them with more people.”
During the race, all trails will remain open to the public for their normal recreation use.
Proceeds from the inaugural Tillamook Burn Trail Run will benefit the Tillamook Forest Heritage Trust, a non-profit organization that led the planning of the Tillamook Forest Center.
