Grass fire on Cox Lane a reminder that fire season is still active

Gales Creek – Fire crews have put out a small grass fire on Cox Lane  on Thursday, October 5 after an old burn pile reignited this afternoon and spread to a field, according to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue.

Though a ban on agricultural and backyard burning was lifted on October 1, Oregon is still in fire season.

“This is a timely reminder to check your old burn piles,” reads a statement by Forest Grove Fire & Rescue. “On warm and dry days like this it’s very common to have an incident like this.”

The department recommends that a ring of bare dirt be kept around your burn pile at least one and a half times the height of your fire, and once done, the burn pile should be completely soaked with water.
