Gales Creek – On August 1st from 6-9 pm, Gales Creek residents, businesses, and area public safety agencies will meet at the Gales Creek School to take part in National Night Out.
Participants are asked to bring a side dish or dessert (with a serving utensil) to share. Hamburgers, hot dogs, all the fixings, and beverages will be provided. There is no alcohol or smoking permitted at the event, and participants are asked to leave their pets at home.
The event features representatives from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, Forest Grove Rural Fire District, the Oregon Department of Forestry, the Gales Creek Chamber of Commerce, Citizen Participation Organization #13, and many local businesses who donate items for a door prize giveaway open to all event attendees.
Started in 1984, National Night Out is an annual community building campaign that seeks to promote partnerships between law enforcement agencies and the public while building neighborhood camaraderie, according to the National Association of Town Watch, the organization that launched the program.
The Gales Creek National Night Out is presented by the Gales Creek Neighborhood Watch, an active organization of ‘road captains’ and neighbors keeping an eye on their neighborhoods, communicating with each other and local law enforcement in the case of emergencies and suspicious persons.
