Decaying bridge on Stringtown Road to be replaced

Gales Creek Valley – Washington County Land Use and Transportation is in the design phase of replacing a 57-year-old decaying wood timbered bridge that crosses Prickett Creek between NW Sylvia Lane and Prickett Road on Stringtown Road.

Built prior to when seismic standards were established in Washington County, the bridge is not seismically sound, according to the county.

The bridge in question is about about three quarters of a mile after you turn onto Stringtown Road from the community of Watts.

This $500,000 project is funded through the county’s Major Streets Transportation Improvement Programs, and will likely cause road closures for 8-12 weeks during the summer of 2019, though timing for the project has not been finalized.

Additionally, further one or two day road closures will be needed to finalize paving and other construction tasks after the initial closure.

Washington County plans to hold an open house about the bridge project at some point in the future, likely in the summer of 2018.
