More than four months after the sudden resignation of former superintendent Yvonne Curtis, a new leader, David Parker, will helm the Forest Grove School District starting July 1.
“I am truly excited to have been named the new superintendent of this fine district,” said Mr. Parker. “In the coming months, I look forward to meeting with teachers, students, staff and community members. In these meetings I will seek to learn their hopes and dreams for the Forest Grove School District. I have already seen an incredible amount of strong work done in the district and my goal will be to help focus and fine tune that work.”
Parker was selected by the Forest Grove School District Board to fill a vacancy left by the sudden departure of Dr. Yvonne Curtis, who resigned her post to take a position with Portland Public Schools in mid-December 2017.
“The Board thoughtfully reviewed our 360 Survey, received input from our staff and community, and believe Dave Parker will be an excellent relationship builder who believes ‘many of our best ideas come from staff members.’” said Board Chair Kate Grandusky, who is a Gales Creek resident. “The educational depth of Dave’s experiences both in Newberg and Hillsboro along with his warm smile and sense of humor will provide the right balance for our school district in going forward,”
According to a press release from David Warner, FGSD Director of Communications, Parker previously worked for Newberg Public Schools as an assistant superintendent for the past six years.
Prior to his time in Newberg, Parker worked in various administrative roles for the Hillsboro School District since 1990. During his time in Hillsboro, Parker held a variety of middle and high school administrative positions, and served as the executive director of secondary education.
Parker holds a Master of Science degree from Lewis and Clark College and a Bachelor in Science degree in Chemistry from Portland State University. He also holds an administrative license from Lewis and Clark, earned in 2007.
Parker begins his position with Forest Grove School District on July 1, 2018. Representatives of the Forest Grove School Board will take formal action on his hire and approval of the contract during a May 14, 2018 board meeting.
